Thanks to many!

Last night we had a very successful and fun movie night at the bowl. Over 120 LHS students spent a couple hours relaxing on the turf and watching a movie on the scoreboard. We would like to thank Bowl Manager Mel Fischer, and Assistant Technology Director for BPS Casey Mueller in helping us with this event. Your time and generosity are greatly appreciated!

Today was one of our 3 lunch days when High Prairie is not available for our students for lunch. Big thanks to the ND National Guard for supplying lunch for us in the Career Academy Multi-Purpose room. The National Guard provided lunch, desert and bottles of water for every LHS student and faculty member. Thank you!

These acts of kindness are just another way in which the community is pitching in to help all Bismarck Public School students. Thanks to everyone for all you have done and continue to do.

Have a great weekend!

Update

Hi everyone!

We had a great first few days at Legacy and I can't thank the students, parents and staff enough for all their support and patience. There are quite a few questions about busing and we are plenty aware of the situation. I'm continuing to work with Facilities and Transportation to makes things more efficient and I'm confident things will get better this week.

A quick reminder for parents who pick up their students. The east bound lanes in front of the Career Academy are reserved for buses to pick up students. Please do not park there as we need room for the buses to load and unload. Thanks for your help!

Have a great week!

Freshman Orientation and other news

Hi everyone!

  1. Please welcome two new staff members to LHS. Toby Seuss and Shelly Osborn have both joined the LHS staff. Mr. Seuss will be leading our CTRE program and Mrs. Osborn will be serving as our school Social Worker.
  2. At the parent meeting last week the students, faculty and parents voted for the LHS slogan. (Tradition Starts Here). We have had to tweak that a little bit. The slogan officially is “Tradition Begins Here”.
  3. The dates are set for our Freshman Orientation. Please try to join us on your designated date as it will be easier to meet the needs of everyone. However if you need to come on a different date that works as well.

Parent Meeting and Freshman Orientation

I would like to thank all the parents and staff that attended our student/parent meeting last evening. Over 200 students and parents gathered in the Career Academy Multi-Purpose room. The support from the LHS Parents and Staff will help ensure the success of the LHS students. Thank you!

At the meeting last night we mentioned that Freshman Orientation will take place in July. In the next couple of weeks you will receive a letter in the mail that will mention your designated time. I will also post those times and dates on the website and this blog.

Again thank you for attending last night and if you have any questions that were not answered for you please send an email my way and I will get back to you shortly!

Phone Number

I remember moving out of my parents house and the excitement of getting my first phone number. The number was more than just a way to reach me, but represented another chapter in my life. Today's students have the same excitement and pride when they receive their first cell phone.

As we continue to build LHS, I'm happy to announce that we have a phone number! This may seem like a small step or a formality, but it is yet another reminder about the reality of what is LEGACY HIGH SCHOOL.

Right now I'm the only person in the offices at LHS so you may get directed to voice mail if you try calling. Please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. We are hoping to have an Administrative Assistant in place shortly who will help in answering your calls.

To reach LHS please call 701-323-4851

Welcome

It is with great excitement that I launch the first Legacy High School Sabers blog. The blog will be updated on a regular basis as it will be one of the main sources of information on the happenings at LHS.

Since the last newsletter there has been great growth in the development of Saber country - LHS. We have hired more staffing as Nadine Butts, a counselor/interventionist from Wachter Middle School, will be joining the LHS staff starting this summer. Nadine brings a great deal of experience and knowledge when it comes to working with high schools students, while also having excellent ties to community resources. Last week we also added two more coaches to the Saber coaching staff. Jason Horner and Nick Walker will be heading up the boys and girls basketball programs respectively. Jason won a state title for Mandan High School and Nick has been a part of several state championship teams at Century High School as either a head coach or an assistant. I couldn't be more excited about these hires.

We are continuing to work with local vendors on getting Saber apparel on the shelves and hopefully attire will be arriving soon. I want to thank Simle/Legacy Athletic Director Paul Jundt for all the help he has given to this project. I will keep you posted when apparel becomes available.

Kim Hertz (FACS) and Kristine Montegomery (Social Studies) have been announced as our Co-Student Council Advisers. They are currently working on forming LHS Student Counci .  Students can start to become involved in Saber student council this spring and summer.

This past week; Band Director Mark Herold, Choral Director Mike Seil and I met with parents of the band program. We discussed when/where band will take place and what parents and students can expect of a high school music program. The meeting was very well attended. Many questions and concerns were able to be addressed.

The daily schedule continues to be a work in progress.  Thanks to the help of Mike Gilbertson and Dale Hoerauf progress is being made. I feel positive about where we are at this point in the school year with the schedule.  Conflicts that arise within the schedule will be resolved as soon as they arrive.

This past January a parent meeting was held at the Career Academy. At that time many parents signed up for parent boosters for athletics, fine arts, or parent advisory committee. Those names have been forwarded to the respectful coaches and fine arts directors. A list-serve is being created for the PAC (parent advisory committee).  If you signed up for the list-serve you will be receiving an email out soon about setting up some meetings dates. Please watch for those contacts in your email.
